Ideal for two players.
Materials: Deck of regular playing cards with kings, queens, jacks and jokers removed, chips. (We used those glass beads that florists use. You can use pennies, raisins, M&Ms, toothpicks, etc.)
Object: To have the most chips at the end of the game. The game can be timed or can go on until one player has all of the cards.
Play: Deal all of the cards out. Each player takes the top card from her hand and places it in the center of the table. The player with the largest card value must then take the difference between the two values. (Aces equal 1.) If she gets it right, she then takes that many chips. If she’s wrong, she doesn’t get any chips. The winner of each hand (the one with the largest card value) takes the pair of cards and adds them to the bottom of her deck. Play continues until a set time runs out or one player has all the cards.
Variations:
- Two dice: Each player rolls a die to get the values. Example: player 1 rolls 5, player 2 rolls 6. Player 2 wins, and receives one chip, if she gets the difference correct.
- Four dice: Each player rolls two dice and totals them to get the value. Example: player 1 rolls 6 and 2. Player 2 rolls 4 and 3. Player 1 wins with 8, and takes three chips, if he gets the difference correct.
- Four dice: Each player rolls two dice, one at a time. Each value represents the digits of two-digit numbers. Example: player 1 rolls 4 and then 1. Player 2 rolls 2 and then 6. Player 1 wins with 41, and gets 15 chips, if she gets the difference correct.
